A
Maritime Self-Defense Force P3C patrol aircraft conducting surveillance over the Pacific Ocean around Japan was tracked by a
J-15 fighter jet — armed with missiles — from
Shandong aircraft carrier for ~40 minutes on June 7 and ~80 minutes on June 8.
On both days the
J-15 flew within 45 meters of the
P3C patrol aircraft at the same altitude, and on June 8, the J-15 crossed ~900 meters in front of the P3C.
The
Shandong sailed in waters about 550km southeast of Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture, on June 7, and inside Japan's EEZ north of Okinotorishima in the Ogasawara Islands on June 9.
There were no injuries or damage reported.
