Hello world! Shinjiro Koizumi here. Posting my first tweet. I'd like to thank both of the leaders finally discussing #climatechange at the summit. Biggest step since I became the Japanese Minister of the Environment back in 2019. So thrilled to be part of this new era!
Today the House of Representatives was dissolved for the first time in 4 years. The general election starts on Oct. 19 ending on the Oct. 31 voting day, meaning there are only 17 days between the dissolution and the election.

Many things need to be done in this short period of time, but I’ll keep pushing myself so that my fellow members and I will grab a victory.
Two years ago, I was appointed as the Environment Minister and Climate Change Minister of Japan. Today, I finished my time along with all the members of the Suga Cabinet.
I’d like to congratulate Dr. Manabe for jointly winning the Nobel Prize in physics. The fact that the prize has been awarded to the meteorology / climate change related area for the first time is significant! I hope this will raise more awareness about #ClimateChange.
Today I had a meeting with Mr. Raymond Greene, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the U.S. Embassy Tokyo, who played an intermediary role between our governments for Operation Tomodachi, the relief effort conducted by U.S. forces when the Great East Japan Earthquake took place.

Here's a photo of me and Mr. Abe, a local farmer in Fukushima. We've been close ever since I visited him as the Director of Youth Division, LDP in 2012. Although this is a great milestone, I believe there's always more we can do.

Delighted to have spoken to Japanese Environment Minister Mr Shinjirō Koizumi (@shinjirokoiz) during the India-Japan Policy Dialogue on Environment. I am convinced we will deepen the ties between our two nations in tackling climate change.
I'm taking part in the #G20 Environment Ministerial Meeting starting today in Naples. First time to see the other ministers in person in one year and seven months! Looking forward to the discussion.
At today’s climate summit, PM Suga announced that Japan’s 2030 target is a 46% reduction from the FY2013 level.
The first in-person Quad summit meeting was held and it was a very meaningful one. The leaders pledged cooperation on #ClimateChange among other things as well as deciding to regularize the meeting. We'll keep working together to pursue a free and open Indo-Pacific.

There's a story behind the victory bouquets for the #Tokyo2020 Olympics. They are made of flowers from the Tohoku area where the Great East Japan Earthquake took place in 2011.
Today I had a discussion with Chef Sugimoto at Imperial Hotel and learned a lot. It’s amazing how they transformed their kitchen into a #sustainable one by not serving buffet anymore.

Today I took part in the opening session of the #G7 Environment Ministers’ meeting online. I talked about Japan’s efforts to make “three transitions”: the transition to a “decarbonized society,” to a “circular economy,” and to a “decentralized society.”

This time too, we had a great discussion on making #COP26 a success and achieving the Paris Agreement goals.
It was such a pleasure havingatfor the first time! Our close cooperation started right after the Biden Administration began in January, and it continued strongly through July's #G20 and the following meeting in London.
Great bilateral meeting in person withsince #cop25 in 2019. We reconfirmed how important to unite the world for success of #cop26 and tackle to #climatecrisis.

Second day of the #G7 Environment Ministers' meeting. I attended the #biodiversity session. Ahead of this year’s #COP15 which focuses on biodiversity, I talked about the importance of 30 by 30 and the efforts Japan and Japanese companies are making to protect biodiversity.
I’d like to thank Minister Leite, Brazil's Environment Minister for the good discussion we just had following the in-person bilateral meeting back in London. We're committed to keep working together to meet the Paris Agreement goals.

Raising our target to 46% is far from easy task, but we will formulate a concrete roadmap and implement appropriate measures toward its achievement.
