ROGERSVILLE — Rogersville City School, founded in 1923, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Saturday with appearances from special guests, former RCS student Charlie Chase and former congressman William Bill Jenkins.
RCS Director, Edwin Jarnagin said this is an exciting time for RCS.
“What an exciting time for Rogersville City School and the community it serves,” Jarnagin said. “I am fortunate to be a part of this event. The school board members of past and present have dedicated many hours to assure RCS is a great place to attend school.”
The RCS 100 Year Celebration will open the doors at 10:30 a.m., with opening ceremonies starting at 11 a.m. in the new gym. The event will feature live music, school tours, food trucks and an RCS memorabilia display.
The school said they hope the community, former students and staff or anyone with ties to RCS will attend the event.
Jarnagin said this is a very important milestone for the school.
“The 100-year anniversary celebration holds a special significance, prompting a sense of pride and accomplishment,” Jarnagin said. “It is a rare milestone that symbolizes longevity and a lasting impact for the community. This occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the journey of the past and changes that have taken place.”
Jarnagin said this accomplishment highlights the staff, students and parents who have contributed to the school in its 100 years of operation.
“Reaching this centennial mark not only highlights the dedication and hard work of those who have contributed to the school, but also serves as a testament to their enduring legacy,” Jarnagin said. “It is a time to honor the leaders, and employees who have shaped its success, as well as the loyal students and parents who have been a part of the school throughout the years.”
The opening ceremony will include recognition of school board members, city council members, county officials, state and federal officials, former students and staff.
They will also have speeches from former U.S. Rep. William “Bill” Jenkins, former student Charlie Chase and his wife. Chase is best known for his work on the Crook and Chase show.
