"Whāia te iti kahurangi, ki te tuohu koe, me he maunga teitei"
"Seek the treasure that you value most dearly, if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain"
- Whakatauki, Māori proverb
The whakataukī above speaks of perseverance and endurance, and refusing to let obstacles get in the way, while striving to reach your goals. Since opening on 8 July, this has been the team's approach at Tūroa. They have persevered and endured and created something remarkable from very little.
But, now it is time for the team to bow their heads to the maunga and accept that while they have done everything within their control, including moving snow from anywhere and everywhere, the reserves are depleted. The forecast looks unlikely to replenish them and so, a call has been made to close Tūroa on Sunday, 9 October for the 2022 season.
Tūroa will also operate slightly revised hours until it closes, opening at 10am, weather permitting. The whole Tūroa team are inspired to make the most of these last days of the season, and encourages you to also. They will operate with the Movenpick as access to the High Noon Express, where the spring corn is still said to be awesome.
At this stage, Whakapapa will continue to operate its sightseeing offering and upper mountain T-bars until Monday, 24 October.
Happy Valley will be open until at least this coming weekend, possibly the following depending on snow conditions.
