Can Equity Incentives Restrain Defensive Behaviors in Corporate Cash Holding Decisions?

SAGE Open, Volume 13, Issue 3, July-September 2023. The present study aims to explore the effect of equity incentive intensity on defensive behavior in enterprise cash holding decision-making using ordinary least squares, System GMM, and Heckman tests. This study finds that the higher the intensity of equity incentives, the lower the level of corporate excess cash holdings. The intensity of equity incentives inhibits defensive behavior in corporate cash holding decisions. A substitute relationship is observed between equity incentive intensity and product market competition in the inhibition of management defensive behavior in cash holding decision. Under the dual goals of achieving carbon peak and carbon neutralization, it is of great practical significance to explore the impact of product information labeling on technological innovation. As an essential element in improving energy performance in consumer products, energy-efficiency labels (EEL) have played a vital role in the government’s portfolio of energy-efficiency improvement, technological progress, and carbon emission mitigation. We estimate the extent of the inductive effects of varying patent types on the relationship between the EEL system and technological innovation in a panel differences-in-differences framework based on the panel data of energy-saving patents and electricity-saving patents from 1998 to 2013 in China.

Making Network Governance Work in Forest Land-Use Policy in the Local Government

SAGE Open, Volume 13, Issue 3, July-September 2023. Focusing on Indonesia’s Riau Province, this study examines the complexities of managing networks for forest governance, and how local governments should adopt and enforce policies in network settings based on multi-stakeholder participation. Data were collected through interviews and document analysis, and analyzed using network analysis. The finding show that network governance through regulation should be enforced through the network’s political structure, involve several local actors, and facilitate coordination and communication for mutual benefit, especially in forest land-use management. Trust and costs reflect the development of collaborative behavioral frameworks which can influence coordination capacity, including intergovernmental networks in forest land-use policy.

Research on the Spatial Correlation and Influence Factors of Regional Internet Finance in China

Based on the Internet Finance development index developed by Peking University in investigating 31 provinces, we use social network analysis to investigate the spatial correlation and influencing factors of the Internet Finance of China’s provinces. The research shows that the spatial correlation of Internet Finance of China’s provinces has significant characteristics of a regional gradient. The correlation among their correlation is moderate, more closely related, smooth, or weak. Measurement and Analysis of the Scientific and Technological Innovation Efficiency of Industrial Enterprises above a Designated Scale in China

SAGE Open, Volume 13, Issue 3, July-September 2023. To explore the technological innovation efficiency of industrial enterprises above designated size and its influencing factors under the China’s economic census industry classification, using the stochastic frontier approach to estimates the innovation efficiency of the 34 industry from 2008 to 2018. Taking the sales revenue of new products as the dependent variable, R&D capital stock and R&D personnel equivalent are taken as the independent variable, control variables are reasonably selected. The characteristics and influencing factors of innovation efficiency between industries are analyzed. The results show that the innovation efficiency of all industries in China is steadily improving, and the difference between industries is gradually narrowing.

Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire: A Mokken Scale Analysis

The two main goal orientations defined in the achievement goal theory framework are task and ego orientations. The task and ego orientation questionnaire (TEOSQ) was developed to assess levels of task and ego goal orientations in sport-related settings and is widely used in research in the field of sport psychology. Its use in research rests on the assumption that sum scores of the TEOSQ can be used to order individuals by their levels of the two goal orientations.

The COVID-19 Pandemic and Family Time Among Married Working Women in South Korea

SAGE Open, Volume 13, Issue 3, July-September 2023. Despite the importance of time with family when facing stressful events, there is insufficient understanding of time spent with family during the COVID-19 pandemic among married working women. This study examined how the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with time spent with family among such women in South Korea, focusing on variations according to occupation and employment status. To address these questions, we pooled cross-sectional data collected before and during the pandemic (N = 13,089) and conducted independent t tests, ANOVAs, and ordinary least squares regression analyses. The results showed that married working women spent more time with their families during the pandemic than before.

The Centrality of Work: A Comparative Analysis of Work Commitment and Work Orientation in Present-Day Societies

This paper aims to comprehensively examine the effects of societal and individual characteristics on work-related attitudes, specifically work commitment and work orientations, using a single dataset and comparable models. It also seeks to relate these attitudes to classic theories and understand how societal factors shape work-related attitudes. The analysis is based on data collected by the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) in its work orientations survey. Data is analyzed using factor analyses, correspondence analyses, and multilevel regressions. The paper provides an overview of work-related attitudes at the country level and a detailed analysis of societal and individual variables that shape these attitudes.

The Narrowing Gender Wage Gap Among Faculty at Public Universities in the U.S

SAGE Open, Volume 13, Issue 3, July-September 2023. We study the conditional gender wage gap among faculty at public research universities in the U.S. We begin by using a cross-sectional dataset from 2016 to replicate the long-standing finding in research that, conditional on rich controls, female faculty earn less than their male colleagues. Next, we construct a data panel to track the evolution of the wage gap through 2021. We show that the gender wage gap is narrowing. It declined by more than 50% over the course of our data panel to the point where by 2021, it is no longer detectable at conventional levels of statistical significance.

The word “suggestion” has been used in educational, scientific and medical literature in slightly different senses. In psychological medicine the use of suggestion has developed out of the earlier use of hypnotic influence. Charcot defined hypnosis as an artificial hysteria, Bernheim as an artificially increased suggestibility. The two definitions need to be combined to give an adequate account of hypnosis.
