ESPAÑOLA, N.M. (KRQE) – The Española School District has a new superintendent.

Former Chama Valley School District administrator Eric Martinez has taken over the position. The Española School Board voted four to zero earlier this month to hire Martinez.

This comes about two months after the resignation of former superintendent Bobbie Gutierrez. She resigned after firing the boy’s head basketball coach Richard Martinez.

A video showed Martinez leading his team in prayer before the state championship. The video sparked an investigation into his professional conduct.
