★★★☆☆ Took them over 10 years to make this sequel of a sequel of a sequel of a sequel, and its not even as good as the original. GG
I miss the days when this was the worst type of product on Steam - mediocre, but still of high production values and completely playable to the end. Instead of the literally unplayable early access scams that make up 99% of Steam's catalog nowadays.
Reasons to Buy:
+ I would say the story, but you could just watch that on youtube + If you're a DMC fanboi, this game sticks to the combat, a bit too much
Reasons to Bail:
- Unsatisfying combat - pay2win revive system
Pros/Cons:
+ Slowmo combat finisher + Vidya Gaems have stories? + Graphics look and run pgood + High quality production values
+- Wave survival mode +- No stat creep, but also no customization +- Trish and Lady are in this purely for fan service? +- Automode needs improvement, especially on Dante +- Combat looks pgood, but is just mindless arm-numbing bullet-sponge button mashing, even moreso in automode, even moreso on V +- Every boss is a unique encounter (aside from being blatantly reused 3 times each), but because there's basically no defensive skills, and no way to heal, learning their mechanics is just suicidal trial and error
- Gated difficulties - Unsatisfying ending - Audio is like 2x too low - Bad writing and/or voice acting - Can't pause cutscenes, only skip them - Nero's arms should be swapable with the d-pad - Every hallway is interrupted by irrelevant cutscenes - Not enough time to speed read loading screen recaps - Some weird coop mode that may or may not actually exist? - Its like they go out of their way to tell the story out of order - Lockon system is garbo, and directional based inputs don't work worth a crap - Skins are just recolors, and the menu to equip them is either hidden or broken - Daily login rewards, in a singleplayer game that you can finish in a single no-life sitting? lol - Wave survival mode has a longer result screen after every wave than the actual wave length - Level design is painfully linear, visually uninteresting, and gets repetitive and redundant towards the end - Dodges don't animation cancel, even the stance dedicated to defense doesn't, making defense not a thing. - The revive/continue system (and therefore your ability to beat bosses), is borderline mobile-game levels of pay2win. - The upgrade system is weak, and the amount of core abilities that require unlocking is borderline game breaking. - Gameplay still doesn't keep up with cinematics, things like slowmo and wall running could certainly be implemented in this gen
Sorry the ultra simplified single digit scoring system is blowing your mind, when there's already a giant wall of text explaining why this game is trash. TLDR, I suppose.
@Strai, In DMC 5 there are mechanics that allow any person to complete the game, regardless of their player skills, and do it beautifully. This is definitely a plus for the game, as it makes the game available to more people. The game will not specifically force you to become a Pro. But for those who want to learn, there are teaching mechanics. Auto-Assist is one such mechanic. It demonstrates the capabilities of the combat system, in real time, thereby wishing to interest the player and encourage learning. But the game will not forcefully teach you. But judging by what you write, you are not capable of learning without getting a snap on your nose and a mechanic like "press this button or die." Which leads to the conclusion that your evolution is at the level of a hamster.
You are deliberately choosing the options that you know you wont like, so that you can have something to whine about. Do you honestly believe there is nothing wrong with that?
At least answer this question if you are going to ignore everything else.
Did you even watched the first video you schmuck? Did you really stopped it at the moment he said "flashy"? Did you miss his comments on how bad the auto is if you want to do the better stuff ? Do you honestly believe that a launcher followed by two attack against the weakest enemies to be anything close to what I showed? And where is the flash in the second video?
You can't possibly beat the game with one button while Auto-Assist is OFF. It will get you pretty far if you turn it ON, but that's the point. It's to show you some things that you can do, so you can learn them (and more) for the higher difficulties. Why are you complaining about a feature that is working as intended. It's like complaining a game has easy difficulty. The game gives freedom to do what you want and for some moronic reason you thing it's bad.
Can't be bothered to comment on anything Prototype related. You get this point.
"I said button mashing meaning spamming buttons without any care in the world."
Indeed, I'm glad you re-confirmed your lie, for a second (or 3rd?) time, since healing is done by a very intentional mechanic that can't be accomplished by button mashing and you would end up dead pretty fast. Dashing around is also a pretty important mechanic.
Unlike in DMCV, where you can very literally just spam triangle and win the entire game.
"Then You said all that flash can be done with one button. (it can)" Any examples for flash? No? Moving on.
(no you didn't? But even if you did, that doesn't change the FACT that flash combos can be done with one button??) Any examples? No? Moving on.
The existence of Auto-Assist is not a reflection on how deep the combat is.
Beating Prototype with one button means WITH ONE BUTTON. I never said that. I said button mashing meaning spamming buttons without any care in the world. The sword can clear the majority of the content with occasional change to the whip.
You do realise that saying thing without backing them up means that you don't know what you are talking about?
4/10 gameplay
9/10 production values
