What fragrance have you gathered the most complements from? Mine has to be creed aventus.
I really want to buy Tom Ford oud wood. 100% going to be my next purchase
I don't think it'll ever be discontinued. It's one of the most popular PB releases.
I definetly disagree. It's one of the most tame of the non fresh Private Blends
I feel like OW is pretty crowd pleasing. It smells very different when it’s dried down on skin than smelling a freshly sprayed test strip. I didn’t like it at all until I wore it and let it develop. My GF comments how good I smell for this more than anything else.
This was my exact experience as well. Had smelled it a few times on paper and wasn't a fan. Then sprayed it on my skin and fell in love with it.
Oud Wood is one the best selling fragrances at TF for a reason though one of my most compliment fragrances i own.
YSL La nuit hands down is is my #1. It never fails, and this is from a bottle made in 2018.
My others that I get a lot on is Savauge EDT, Aventus, and D&G the ONE edt
I don't own that many bottles, maybe about 10-12. I like to keep my collection small , and yes I have mostly mainstream, I don't buy them to get compliments, but at the same time I like to buy what I enjoy and what smells good to others.
I have only once gotten a compliment and that was from an outgoing female coworker at my pizzeria. I was wearing Aventus...
Pdm Leyton and penhaligons halfeti. I literally had a random girl physically jump on me in a bar wearing Halfeti. Over the top reactions from it. Although apparently if you’re in London everyone and their nan is wearing it
I may be wrong but isnt halfeti a fruity woman's parfum
Would you reccomend it to men?
A barber made me pull out my phone so I can show him the fragrance I was wearing (Layton) and then he proceeded to jot the name and price down.
I wore Lavanila Grapefruit the other day and both men AND women were asking for information about it. It's a bright, simple scent. I do wish it lasted longer on my skin, though.
I'm a little bit wary about Sauvage nowadays cause it seems like literally everyone I know uses it, but fuck me, it consistently grabs people's attention. I don't wanna switch to anything else.
You have to remember that the frag community is small, and 90% of people won’t have any idea what it is they’re smelling.
Not to mention majority of people don’t even wear fragrances. Much less know which fragrance is which.
It’s such a good scent! When I used up my smaller bottle, I wasn’t planning on re-purchasing at first. But then I thought about it, and realized it was one of those scents that will always be in my fragrance wardrobe. I just can’t quit it.
Tuscan Leather - it’s the only higher end fragrance that I’ll dare say is worth the money
Creed Viking
Alexandria Fragrances Run Way (Reflection Man clone)
CK One Shock (I wear this one a lot so it gets much more exposure than my other frags
Another vote for viking here. An unexpected top three from Creed for me.
I might be alone in this, but I would say it's a fresh winter scent. It opens with peppermint and is spicey/fresh. I wore it then other day and a guy co-worker of mine told me "you smell freaking awesome". Those were his words. I've spent way too much on scents so I'm thinking of selling a couple to buy a full bottle of Viking. I really dont get all the hate, besides the insane price. It would be my daily winter driver if I had a full bottle.
Anyone else here have thoughts on Viking?
I really like Viking! Bought a full bottle after smelling it for like 2 minutes. Not so smart, but im not disappointed xD..
Creed Bois du Portugal, Tom Ford Italian Cypress, and By Kilan Straight To Heaven!
Out of the three I mentioned, Kilian seems to garner more compliments from others. A very unique fragrance, that I'd say reflects the house perfectly, and since Kilian is the grandson of the Hennessey name.
Honorable mention: Tom Ford Black Orchid EDP. a lot of women have complimented me on this fragrance. As a guy I love this stuff!
I got a sample of Bois du Portugal. I like it but there is too much musk for me.
Which one do you have? Extrait or Eau? I have thought about getting the extrait but I'm unsure if it will be too strong
I have both but was wearing the EdP today. While it is a bit "denser" for lack of a better term, the Extrait is not really that much stronger (at least projection wise) than than EDP. so you don't have that to fear. It actually wears a lot closer on me, but lasts longer than the Eau. If you are fine with the Edp, you won't have issues with the Extrait. It smells slightly different though on the opening with the added almond note.
How many sprays do you use?
I sampled this once, and I loved it, but it didn't seem to last very long. Granted, I just did a quick sample spray on the wrist . . .
I have 10 or so frags but the only one that ever gets me compliments is Sauvage. :D In the beginning I didn't want to wear it because I guess I was affected by the pretentious snobs on this sub, but I've started using it more frequently now despite it not being my favorite precisely because it's the only one regularly getting me compliments. The only other frag I've ever used that generated as many compliments was Acqua di Gio - another generally disliked one in the frag community, lol. I wore it a lot when I was younger but kind of grew out of it.
Why do people on this sub hate on sauvage so much? I've only heard good things about it. I guess it may be because of how low the price is compared to the other highly rated frags
I don’t think it’s just people on this sub, but the general consensus with Sauvage in the fragcomm is that it’s at the point where it’s overdone. It’s too popular, almost everyone has it. Although it still smells great, it’s no longer that fragrance that garners passerby’s to ask what is it you’re wearing; no longer that beast of a compliment-getter it once was.
AdG isn't really disliked it just smells sort of dated at this point because it's been around for so long and most people know the scent, even if they don't know the name of it. Sauvage will probably be in the same sort of place in another decade
Do you have a 2018 bottle of Sauvage, how is the performance for you?
Surprisingly comments/compliments have been pretty varied with what I wear... ones that come to mind: Kouros, Terrarossa, Balenciaga Pour Homme, Sauvage, Aventus, Cedrat Boise, Dior Homme Eau, Oud Ispahan, Leather Oud, Interlude Man (at work, yep), CH Men, Chanel Pour Monsieur EdTC.
See By Chloe. Every time I wear it someone asks me what I'm wearing.
Probably 1 million lucky, closely followed by Ultra Male. Both seem to be absolutely adored by the college demographic in my area, my friends have even told me to wear them more often because they like them so much. I actually do have Aventus too though funnily enough, but it's not a particularly strong compliment getter for me (though I don't wear it too much as it's a bit strong to wear in lectures).
I've heard a lot of good things about ultra Male. I have never actually smelled it though so I'm not sure if I would like it
It's incredibly sweet and very strong, and has my favourite dry down of any fragrance. It should be stocked at most department stores though, it's quite popular.
BR540, but so many people have said that so then it's a close race between Layton, Intense Cafe, and VUI, other dudes have complimented Layton and wanted to get it for themselves, no one said they wanted to get Intense Cafe, and women wanted to get VUI for their SO.
V&R Dancing Roses. Both male and female friends like this one. Maybe because it is one of the sweeter one in my collection.
This sounds super pretentious but actually Layton by Parfums De Marly. I actually hated it at first because I was smelling it too close, but once it dries down on your skin and lingers... oh boy. Is it worth the 300 CAD I spent on it? For me yeah because I don’t have anything else that comes close to getting compliments (although, Pineapple Vintage Intense has gotten quite a bit; I haven’t been collecting for very long)
"Howl," by Possets! It's an odd one, too! I've had more compliments on that fragrance, than any other I've worn. A close second, is "Fumerie Turque," by Serge Lutens.
Frapin L'humaniste.
Yes way more than Aventus.
However only for a 2 hours, still very underrated scent.
Hommage à l'Homme, CH Men Privé, and Dior Sauvage are the three that consistently get me out of the blue compliments.
All my perfumes get complimented by people burying their noses in my neck/scarf, however. :D
I always have strangers stop me to ask what I’m wearing when I wear byredo’s la selle. Men and women. Old. Young. I’ve written it down for people. Helped them search for it on their phones.
I’m a female by the way. A friend has told me I smell like a man who is about to sexually harass someone when I was wearing it once. Which gives me pause every time I wear it.

That made me laugh, so descriptive!
I have about 30 bottles of perfume-niche, designer, cheapies, expensive and probably another 30 quality samples/decants.
The two instances where I was complemented (outside my family) were both on fairly inexpensive clones-1 on casino royal (BR 540) and another on a clone that came hand labeled in a simple glass spray with from an EBay seller in the Middle East.(Hermès Ambre Narguile)
Oh the irony!
I hate to say, but its Hugo Boss "Hugo" (the light blue one with the green thingy on the cap).
Don't know why, but it's a ladykiller.
Probably the ones I wore most often. Which would make it one of my signatures and/or work scents during my late teens to early 30's.
Acqua di Gio
Azzaro Chrome
Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet (I won't be surprised if this makes a comeback IF they improve performance)
Sander for Men
Versace Blue Jeans
I don't really even count these as compliment-getters; they are just the ones I've received the most compliments on by virtue of how often I wore them.
immortal perfume's voodoo queen. the notes are, according to the perfumer, "Black Cardamom, Palo Santo, Sage, Saffron, Jasmine, Rose, Cedar." i've had people get all wide eyed and demand to know what it is i'm wearing on an occasion or two and others have been like, "you smell really fucking good, dude!" it's a beautiful rose and palo santo that settles into a spicy black cardmom and it's one of my holy grails. i'm considering buying a couple backups over the next year or so.
