Such a basic feature. Why is this broken anyway?

If no-one answers him, it's difficult for oneplus to fix it.
If no-one answers him, it's difficult for oneplus to fix it.
If only they had some kind of background service that automatically sends telemetry data to OnePlus. That would be super helpful to fix this kind of issues. (SCNR)
Yeah, that'd be really handy, shams there isn't one
/u/zero-li look into the GPS. For the last month or so it's been taking forever to start navigation. You enter your desired address, hit "Start" and it just hangs. Sometimes it'll never go into the 3d mode, it just sits on the top down view, with your starting location as a dot.
It will eventually move your location but it's always behind where you actually are.
If you back out of navigation, and restart it'll sometimes catch your location and start navigating.
My wife and I both have an OP3 and they both have the same issue. Both using Google maps.
We've tested where we both enter a location, it will hang, I'll back out and go back into nav until it fixes my location, she does nothing and hers never actually got her location over a 5+ mile drive.
Edit: Please and thank you.
Oh my god, I thought I was going crazy with my phone keep hanging at top down view. I'm glad to know this is a GPS problem with the phone and not me going crazy.
I thought maybe it was because we just moved to a new area. Like it was throwing our phones if or something.
Mostly I wanted to actually describe the issues we were having because nobody seemed to be doing that.
same issue (OP3). I just accidentally discovered that pausing the app and then resuming it sometimes fixes it. Other times, it just takes a looong time to lock in. And sometimes, it just never does.
The only way I can get my GPS to function properly on google maps is to open up waze.
I haven't had any issues with Google Maps in ages.
Waze is doing the same thing for me. "No GPS, showing approximate location."
I did answer him in another thread, I've done 2 of these dumps now and sent them along to him, each time with the promise he'll pass it on to the developers and get back to me.
The first time he did get back to me and there was a bit of back and forth which resulted in OnePlus trying to blame the problem on a Google Maps update. Since the last time I've sent this dump in he's not updated me since and that was a few weeks ago so I'm not sure anything is being done about the situation 😢
What do you mean by broken GPS? My op3 GPS is really fast. Catch position in a few seconds. I'm on 4.5.1
It appears to be broken in the High Accuracy mode, according to people. I have a 3T and I use the Device Only mode, because I do not see the need to use mobile networks as well, GPS itself is enough and is quite precise, and I do not have any issues either.
Same on my 3T. Actually feels like the fastest locking GPS on any phone I had.
The GPS on my OnePlus 2 was broken until switching to lineage. On several occasions I drove 20 minutes to the destination while waiting for the gps to get a lock.
Last night, I put in directions on Google Maps to somewhere I was like 90% sure of how to get to just in case I got lost. The GPS didn't work at all on the way there (it was stuck in walking mode and jumping all over the place), but once I finally got there, it had the audacity to say, "You've arrived."!!!!
A couple weeks ago I had to wait almost 20 minutes for the GPS fix. I was in the Netherlands without any clue where to go...
Holy crap, same thing to me today! Thankfully I knew where I was going but it just couldn't lock on. And when I got to the location it said: "you have arrived". I was quite pissed.
I've had a lot of issues with mine. Went on a 6+ hour drive across some mountains recently. Lost GPS service twice and cell service twice, meaning I had to stop and restart my phone four times either because Maps hung on "searching for GPS signal" or because internet radio over Bluetooth stopped playing. All four times in area with excellent 4G coverage and under clear skies. It's honestly really annoying not being able to navigate somewhere without having to stop multiple times. It's been a problem since I bought the phone. I'm on 4.5.0.
Same problem with OnePlus 5. After some uptime, it does not get a gps fix anymore. Have to restart the phone. Toggling location settings does not work.
How much uptime?
I have 29h uptime and I can still connect to 12 out of 28 GPS sattelites, inside a building... Time to fix 10-15 seconds
I don't know. Next time it happens I will check... Probably 3 to 4 days usually, but I also observed it sooner... I can also get a fix inside a building after a restart, but when it glitches, gps test shoes sufficient satellites, but never manages to get a fix.
I never had issues with getting a fix, what I saw that on older oOS that the phone would only connect to GPS and GLONASS satellites and not to BEIDU or GALILEO...
Mine is terrible since a recent update. It's honestly a huge problem.
I haven't update it yet but I have seen several updates since the update but eh :/
Same here. I start android auto up in my car and it won't get a lock, so annoying. Started last few weeks.
My GPS was perfect until one of the betas completely broke it. I can't remember which one, but it's been useless for the past 2 months. I've tried wiping the phone, switching the SIM to slot 2, switching back to stable OOS, and I'm now on PA 7.3.0. Rebooting seems to fix it for a couple hours, but it soon goes to shit again.
I should not have to reboot my phone every time I want to use maps.
Mine got bad starting a few months ago on my OP3. It's been excellent since the Oreo beta, though.
Mine is shit, I've given up. (Op5) Switching to something else soon.
The latest patch did something bad to OP3. Seems like a bigger issue in Waze than in Google maps. Waze is all kinds of confused as to where I am...switched to Google maps and that is working fine.
GPS was basically entirely non-functional on my OPO, was one of the most frustrating things. I figured no way it would be a problem on the OP3T, and for the last 6+ months it hadn't been. But this past month, I'm getting flashbacks to my shitty OPO GPS.
Seriously man, GPS is absolutely essential for navigation these days. It genuinely is repeatedly holding up my day because I can't get it to latch on when I want to get somehwhere. Please, please fix it ASAP.
This shit right here fixed a lot of issues on my opo
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en
Was a bit sceptical but it actually worked for me too.
I concur this fixed things up for me as well, this forces some kind of more rigorous behavior even when using other apps that engage the GPS functions.
Go into Location settings and switch to Device only. Let it get a good fix then switch it back to default. Haven't had any issues since I did that including multiple reboots.
I had an issue for a week or so it went away with the update.(op5)
GPS was a problem with my original OnePlus One but haven't had an issue with my new OnePlus 5.
Rebooting the OnePlus One whenever I had issues worked for me.
My OnePlus 3T's GPS started acting up a few months ago. I tried factory resetting too. Doesn't matter what app I used, as they all use the same GPS.
I ended up installing LineageOS on my phone and it works perfectly. So it might be a driver issue.
Op2, have sporadic problems but it works 90% of the time. Battery saver mode seems to mess mine up
I have had some issues with GPS on my OPO as well as my new OP3t. But it's not repeatable. It's just that every once in a while Google maps just has no idea where I am.
Glad I'm not the only one. Had tons of issues using it today on my oneplus x. Would lag out or stay stuck on searching for GPS.
Same story here. The GPS is complete crap.
Been with OnePlus since the beginning and now I'm switching. Money grabbing company that doesn't really support the users anymore. I'm out
I have a OnePlus 5 and I do encounter GPS issues from time to time even with the high accuracy setting. I'll be at work/home and it shows that I'm a few hundred feet away, to a completely wrong location (Google maps/Life360). Though I've never had problems with Waze before a drive. It's usually when I'm just sitting still, with perfect reception/WiFi.
My OP5 will break after a while of being on. There isn't really a set amount of time. It just can't get a lock on GPS anymore and I need to reboot to fix it.
SAME HERE. I left samsung bc of bad GPS. Not sure if I'm happy that I'm not the only one, or totally pissed. This will be my last OP phone. GPS is a must.
It would help if you mentioned which of their many devices you are talking about.
I thought it was just me moving to a new city
Using a op3. I don't get what issues are you guys talking about
On Nougat, my device used to just sit there with 15+ satellites connected but no GPS-fix for months. I sometimes got it to work after waiting 15+ minutes which is not the way it should work. As a root-user, I tried literally everything apart from switching roms. Luckily it seems that the Oreo Beta has fixed this for me. Fingers crossed!
Well every was and is fine with my op5. I don't know what the problem is.
Recently bought OnePlus 3T and there is GPS issues indeed, performance is really bad compared to my Nexus and Huawei devices. It's not accurate and need long time to fix satellites. I am using oos 4.5.
I really need GPS because I am working really much in the field, and I abandoned my proper GPS devices because I have much more functionality with Orux maps, expect battery.
So please fix this as soon as possible PLEASE!
I have never had a single problem with GPS on my OP3.

Hi, any news with the gps issue? Would it still help if I send the log? Facing the same issue since like 2-3 months back :-(. Other than that I love my OP5. By far the best phone I've ever had. The GPS sucks though :-/
The GPS is working great on OP5, I'm using it almost everyday.
